Washington, D.C.— Today, Senator Cory Gardner and Congressman Joe Neguse introduced the STATES Act, Strengthening the Tenth Amendment Through Entrusting States Act of 2019. This bipartisan legislation would eliminate conflicts between state and federal laws, enabling states to determine their own cannabis laws. Specifically, the legislation would amend the Controlled Substance Act so that any person acting in compliance with a state or tribal law would no longer see most of the Act’s provisions apply to them.

Washington D.C.— Today, Representative Joe Neguse, who serves on the Sub-Committee of the House Judiciary Committee, introduced a private bill in the House of Representatives to provide a stay on the deportation of Jeanette Vizguerra, a mother of four living in limbo in Colorado because of her unique immigration case. The private bill would extend Vizguerra’s stay for 6 months and stop ICE from initiating removal proceedings, due to the fact that ICE is attempting to deport her based on their erroneous belief that there is a preexisting removal order.

H.R. 9 will prohibit federal funds from being used to take any action to advance the withdrawal of the U.S. from the Paris Agreement and calls on the President to make public a plan for how the United States will achieve a commitment of an economy-wide reduction in greenhouse gases by 26%-28% below 2005 levels by 2025.

Washington D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse will hold his first “Service Town Hall” on Saturday, March 23rd at Bridge House, Boulder. As part of a new “Service Town Hall” initiative, constituents are invited to join Congressman Neguse in a community service event, packing toiletry kits for homeless individuals in Boulder, ahead of a town hall discussion at the same location. The new initiative — combining community service with an official Congressional town-hall — is believed to be the first of its kind nationwide.
