Washington D.C.—Today, an amendment from Congressman Joe Neguse on national early registration passed the House with bipartisan support—239 total votes—as part of H.R. 1, the For the People Act. The amendment allows 16 and 17-year-olds nationwide the ability to pre-register to vote ahead of their 18th birthday.

Washington D.C.— Today, Congressman Neguse congratulated Colorado State University for a $20 million funding renewal from the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) for continued investment in the Center for Risk-Based Community Resilience Planning. The Fort Collins-based center will receive $4 million annually for the next five years to help the community increase resilience to disaster.

Washington D.C.—Today, the House Judiciary Committee will hold a hearing to discuss protections for Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) recipients, Temporary Protected Status (TPS) beneficiaries and Deferred Enforced Departure (DED) recipients. The hearing will highlight the need for legislative solutions that provide lawful permanent resident status and a pathway to citizenship for these individuals, and will examine the personal and community-based impacts resulting from the Administration’s decision to terminate DACA, TPS and DED.

Washington D.C.— Today, Congressman Joe Neguse, with Congresswoman Barbara Lee, introduced the Restraining Excessive Federal Enforcement & Regulations of Cannabis (REFER) Act, a bipartisan bill to prevent federal agencies from using taxpayer funds to interfere in state and local cannabis laws.

Washington D.C.— Yesterday evening, Senate bill 47, also known as the Natural Resources Management Act, passed in the House with bipartisan support. The bill includes two provisions introduced by Representative Neguse: the Bolts Ditch Access and Use Act and the Arapaho National Forest Boundary Adjustment (WEDGE) Act.

Washington D.C.— During last week’s district work period, Representative Joe Neguse held several meetings with city and county leaders—including municipal leaders in Berthoud, Loveland, Fort Collins, Idaho Springs, Central City, Black Hawk, Clear Creek and Gilpin Counties, Vail, and Summit. He met with local business owners, researchers at Colorado’s federal labs, and students at Colorado State University to discuss local legislative efforts for the district.

Washington D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse released the following statement in response to President Trump’s intent to declare a national emergency in order to build a wall on our southern border:

“The President’s apparent plan to declare a national emergency is lawless and unconstitutional. Under President Trump’s purported plan, the military would need to seize hundreds of miles of private and state-owned land. It’s a gross abuse of authority and a threat to our rule of law. If the President declares a national emergency tonight, we must challenge it in court tomorrow.”
