Washington D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse released the following statement in response to President Trump’s intent to declare a national emergency in order to build a wall on our southern border:
“The President’s apparent plan to declare a national emergency is lawless and unconstitutional. Under President Trump’s purported plan, the military would need to seize hundreds of miles of private and state-owned land. It’s a gross abuse of authority and a threat to our rule of law. If the President declares a national emergency tonight, we must challenge it in court tomorrow.”

Neguse, 34, is the youngest member of the Committee and the only Representative from Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West. Neguse issued the following statement in response to the announcement:

Washington D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse (CO-02), himself a son of African refugees, has invited a student in the DACA program from Colorado State University to attend the State of the Union on Tuesday February 5th as his guest. Elias, a student studying Chemical and Biological Engineering and Biomedical Engineering at Colorado State University, came to America at a young age when his parents immigrated from Mexico, and currently lives and works part-time in Fort Collins where he attends school.
