The American Dream for All

June 13, 2019

Dear Friends,

Last week I was beyond honored to deliver the rebuttal on the House floor as we debated H.R.6, and even prouder to cast my vote as we passed the Dream and Promise Act! Listen to my comments here!

STANDING UP FOR DREAMERS

As the son of immigrants - of African refugees who fled harrowing circumstances to seek a better life and achieve the American Dream - it was with great reverence and joy that I delivered the rebuttal in favor of the Dream and Promise Act on the House floor.

This bill would give a pathway to citizenship to two major groups of immigrants: undocumented immigrants who were brought to the U.S. as children (known as DREAMers), immigrants with temporary humanitarian protections (or TPS) given uncertain or dangerous conditions in their native country, and deferred enforced departure (DED) recipients. These are critical protections for folks who have made this country their home and who contribute to our economy and communities as our friends, neighbors, and colleagues.

It is humbling and awe-inspiring that I, a son of refugees, am able to stand as a Congressman in the House chamber in defense of this piece of legislation, and it is proof that the American dream is real. I was incredibly honored to advocate for the American Dream and Promise Act and to help pass this essential legislation which will give every young immigrant this same shot at opportunity and success in America.

You can hear about all I am doing for the people of Colorado in the U.S. House each and every day by signing up for my newsletter here!

Sincerely,

Joe Neguse

Member of Congress
