Prompted by the devastating Marshall fire, which destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 homes and businesses in Boulder County last week, Rep. Joe Neguse will introduce legislation in the U.S. House Friday designed to stop wildfires before they start, better fight them when they break out and provide comprehensive recovery aid to those impacted.

Congressman Joe Neguse was in Estes Park on Monday (Dec. 20) to tour the Kruger Rock Fire (KRF) burn area and discusses funds that will soon be available for grid improvements thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed into law by President Biden on Nov. 15.

Around noon, the Congressman met up with Mayor Wendy Koenig, Trustee Cindy Younglund, Town Administrator Travis Machalek, Assistant Town Administrator Jason Damweber, Estes Valley Fire Protection District Chief David Wolf, and Power and Communications Line Superintendent Joe Lockhart.

With the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package signed into law, many Coloradans are eyeing funding to help maintain infrastructure that keeps the state running.

Summit County Commissioner Tamara Pogue said the bill is incredibly important for the county given its high amount of needs, including wildfire protection and water infrastructure. In particular, transportation is always in need of funding throughout the state, especially along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor that Summit County calls home.

Bipartisan legislation from U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse could increase access to out-of-state mental health resources.

The Compacts, Access and Responsible Expansion (CARE) for Mental Health Professionals Act would reform medical licensure and establish a grant program to encourage interstate mental health provider networks. The goal of the legislation, cosponsored by Rep. Brian Fitzpatrick (R-Pennsylvania), is to widen the national network of mental health providers and expand access to mental health resources in rural communities and elsewhere.

On Sunday afternoon, the Siddiqi family waited in their driveway to welcome Congressman Joe Neguse and his family to their new Broomfield home. Ahmad Siddiqi remarked on the view of the Rocky Mountains from his new home’s front yard.

“The mountains are small, but they remind me of home,” he joked.
