Boulder County would be among communities seeing an increased federal share to help with wildfire recovery, if a bill introduced into the U.S. House of Representatives this week gets approval from the country’s leaders.

Congressman Joe Neguse, D-Lafayette, introduced the Wildfire Recovery Act on Thursday, according to a news release from his office. The legislation, if approved, could increase the federal share in the Fire Management Assistance Grants beyond the current 75% allotment, with communities currently paying 25% of the cost share.

Washington D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse introduced the Wildfire Recovery Act to help ensure Colorado communities have the resources they need to recover from a devastating wildfire season. Specifically, the legislation would increase flexibility in the federal cost share for Fire Management Assistance Grants (FMAG) and allow for an increase above the current 75% federal share. Currently, the CalWood, East Troublesome, and Cameron Peak Fires which burned throughout the 2nd district have all been authorized to receive FMAG grants to assist in recovery efforts.

Washington D.C.—Today, two bills introduced by Congressman Joe Neguse to expand Rocky Mountain National Park passed the House with overwhelming bipartisan support. H.R. 5458, the Rocky Mountain National Park Boundary Modification Act would allow former NASA astronaut and Longmont, Colorado native Vance D. Brand to donate 40 acres to Rocky Mountain National Park, and H.R. 5459, the Rocky Mountain Ownership Correction Act would correct a longstanding error regarding a local family’s cabin that was mistakenly transferred to the park.

Colorado’s representatives are working to provide federal support for local recovery efforts from the East Troublesome Fire.

U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse and Sen. Michael Bennet have called on Congress to include wildfire mitigation and recovery relief funding in the next coronavirus relief package.

On Thursday, Neguse plans to introduce the Wildfire Recovery Act, a bill that would help cover costs for firefighting, including field camp expenses, equipment, repairs, mobilization and other eligible Fire Management Assistance Grant expenses.

Bipartisan legislation to create the Every Word We Utter women's suffrage movement monument passed the U.S. Senate last week and is now headed to President Donald Trump's desk for a signature. Trump has previously expressed support for the legislation, according to a news release from Colorado Congressman Joe Neguse's office.

Washington D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse and Congressman John Katko introduced bipartisan legislation to provide $1.7 billion in COVID-19 relief funds to Head Start to pay for additional staffing, personal protective equipment, cleaning and other needs at child care facilities across the United States. The Jumpstart for Head Start Act, would address the estimated funding shortfall for Head Start grantees and would appropriate funds directly to Head Start programs based on enrollment ratio.
