Protecting Colorado’s Public Lands
Congressman Joe Neguse, Ranking Member of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Federal Lands, has been a leading national voice in the fight to protect America’s public lands. He has championed legislation to safeguard public lands and waters for wildlife and future generations, improve the health of our forests and watersheds, and ensure access to outdoor recreation.
Congressman Neguse is the lead sponsor on multiple landmark bills to protect public lands and waters in Colorado and across the United States:
- Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy (CORE) Act
- Continental Divide National Scenic Trail Completion Act
- Sarvis Creek Wilderness Completion Act
As part of the Expanding Public Lands Outdoor Recreation Experiences (EXPLORE Act), Representative Neguse enacted several pieces of legislation to expand outdoor recreation opportunities and protect public lands and waters:
- Stop the Spread of Invasive Mussels Act
- Biking on Long Distance Trails (BOLT) Act
- Improving Outdoor Recreation Coordination Act
- Forest Service Flexible Housing Partnerships Act
Most recently, Congressman Neguse has been at the forefront of efforts to push back against the Trump Administration’s attempts to weaken federal land management agencies—calling for the immediate reinstatement of public servants at the Department of the Interior (DOI), National Park Service (NPS), and U.S. Forest Service (USFS):
And when Republicans tried to slip provisions into the 2025 budget reconciliation bill that would have mandated the sale of millions of acres of public lands, Congressman Neguse built a bipartisan coalition to block the proposal. They succeeded in ensuring that no such provisions were included in the final bill, protecting treasured public spaces from being sold off to the highest bidder.
