The Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus
In 2020, Colorado's 2nd District experienced the two largest wildfires in state history. The Cameron Peak and East Troublesome fires were devastating and illustrated how we are moving away from traditional fire seasons and instead experience these disasters year-round. Then, just a year later — in December — the district was impacted again by the Marshall Fire, the most destructive fire in Colorado history.
In the face of these catastrophes, Congressman Joe Neguse took action — partnering with now-Senator John Curtis (R-UT) — and established the Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus, which he is continuing in the 119th Congress alongside Representative Celeste Maloy (R-UT).
As founder and original co-chair, Neguse has led the charge in better preparing our communities to be resilient and mitigate wildfire risk, as well as ensuring that they have the resources they need to recover. As a part of his work with the Caucus, Congressman Neguse also released resource guides to help people in Colorado and across the country be better prepared to survive and recover from wildfires.

The Colorado Congressman is also working to ensure that all those who selflessly risk their lives defending our homes and natural resources as wildland firefighters are paid fairly for their labor, skills, and training.
The Bipartisan Wildfire Caucus:
- Advocates for wildfire-related programs, including funding for disaster relief, prevention, and mitigation;
- Shares federal relief programs and resources with communities before, during, and after wildfire season; and
- Highlights balanced and bipartisan science-based wildfire management and mitigation proposals in Congress.
