Prompted by the devastating Marshall fire, which destroyed or damaged more than 1,000 homes and businesses in Boulder County last week, Rep. Joe Neguse will introduce legislation in the U.S. House Friday designed to stop wildfires before they start, better fight them when they break out and provide comprehensive recovery aid to those impacted.

Boulder, CO— Congressman Joe Neguse will join Colorado Governor Jared Polis in hosting President Joe Biden in Boulder County on Friday to tour the Marshall Fire damage and discuss urgently needed federal support. Over the weekend, Congressman Neguse worked with the Biden Administration and FEMA to secure an expedited Major Disaster Declaration to provide recovery funds to local communities. In particular, Congressman Neguse advocated for Individual Assistance to be included in the Declaration, providing direct reimbursement to impacted community members.

Boulder, CO— Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced that FEMA will begin accepting applications for disaster assistance tomorrow for residents and business owners who sustained losses in the Marshall Fire. Assistance can include grants for temporary housing and home repairs, low-cost loans to cover uninsured property losses and other programs to help individuals and business owners recover from the effects of the disaster.

Washington D.C.— Today, Congressman Joe Neguse and Congressman Doug Lamborn unveiled the HUBS for Veterans Act, bipartisan legislation to support local “network hubs” which streamline access to essential resources for veterans, servicemembers, and their families. The legislation, led by Senator Bennet and Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) in the Senate, would authorize a five-year pilot program to provide matching grant funds to non-profit organizations that offer access to multiple, wraparound services from one source, or “network hubs.”

Washington D.C.— Today, Congressman Joe Neguse unveiled the Capital for Cooperatives Act, bicameral legislation to fix a technicality that unfairly bars co-ops from being eligible for SBA’s primary loan program. The legislation is sponsored by Senator John Hickenlooper in the Senate.

Congressman Joe Neguse was in Estes Park on Monday (Dec. 20) to tour the Kruger Rock Fire (KRF) burn area and discusses funds that will soon be available for grid improvements thanks to the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law signed into law by President Biden on Nov. 15.

Around noon, the Congressman met up with Mayor Wendy Koenig, Trustee Cindy Younglund, Town Administrator Travis Machalek, Assistant Town Administrator Jason Damweber, Estes Valley Fire Protection District Chief David Wolf, and Power and Communications Line Superintendent Joe Lockhart.

With the $1.2 trillion infrastructure package signed into law, many Coloradans are eyeing funding to help maintain infrastructure that keeps the state running.

Summit County Commissioner Tamara Pogue said the bill is incredibly important for the county given its high amount of needs, including wildfire protection and water infrastructure. In particular, transportation is always in need of funding throughout the state, especially along the Interstate 70 mountain corridor that Summit County calls home.

Washington D.C.— Today, Congressman Joe Neguse unveiled bipartisan, bicameral legislation to expand access to universal broadband. Led by Neguse in the House, the Reforming Broadband Connectivity Act, is the companion to Senate legislation originally introduced by Senators Amy Klobuchar (D-MN) and John Thune (R-SD). The Act directs the Federal Communications Commission (FCC) to improve funding for the Universal Service Fund (USF), expanding access to broadband and other telecommunications services.
