“The West is Burning, Our Communities Are on the Line, and Inaction is Not an Option”: Congressman Neguse Responds to Latest IPCC Report
Washington D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse, a member of the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis issued the following statement in response to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC)’s finalized Sixth Assessment Report.
“Today’s IPCC report makes it abundantly clear — once again — that we are not prepared for the impacts that are now happening as a result of the changing climate. For communities in my district and throughout the country, these consequences are all too real,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “As we read this report, Louisville, Superior and Boulder County are still reeling from the aftermath from the destructive Marshall Fire. In Larimer County and Grand County, recovery work continues in the wake of record-setting wildfires and hundred-year floods. And all along the Front Range we’ve witnessed some of the worst air-quality in the western hemisphere, exasperated by extreme heat and drought. The west is burning, communities are hurting, and we can no longer risk the cost of inaction. This crisis is fueling wildfires, harming ecosystems, impacting water supplies, food production and risking the well-being and livelihood of countless families. We must move swiftly to adapt to the changes we can no longer avoid and transition to a clean energy economy to stop carbon pollution and avoid the truly widespread catastrophes that would come on our current path. For our communities, our future and our planet we cannot delay any longer in solving the climate crisis.”
