Rep. Neguse Secures $2 Million in Federal Funding for Community-Based Projects in Steamboat Springs

March 11, 2024

Lafayette, CO — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced a total of $2 million in Community Project Funding for Steamboat Springs. Rep. Neguse successfully championed and secured the investments as part of the first set of government funding bills signed into law by President Biden on Saturday, March 9. The funding includes $1 million to connect local affordable housing units with the community through new pedestrian and bicycle pathways, and $1 million to replace the aging water and sewer infrastructure serving the Whitehaven Mobile Home Park.

“I am proud to have secured two significant investments to improve the public infrastructure serving local families and individuals residing in affordable housing in Steamboat Springs. Whether it's supporting community connection through the creation of safe pedestrian and bicycle routes or providing affordable access to clean, safe drinking water – these advancements will make a real difference for folks in Routt County,” said Congressman Neguse.

“Expanding multi-modal infrastructure is a priority for our community and a key strategy in implementation of the Routt County Climate Action plan. We appreciate Congressman Neguse for championing this project,” said Gail Garey, Steamboat Springs City Council President.

City Council President Garey continued: “We appreciate the efforts by Congressman Neguse to champion funding for infrastructure that is vital to our community. The million-dollar grant through the congressional community project funding program will go a long way in addressing significant upgrades to the Whitehaven Mobile Home Park, which provides important affordable housing options for the Yampa Valley.”

“Thanks to the support of Congressman Neguse and the Community Project Funding grant, Yampa Valley Housing Authority (YVHA) will be able to replace the aging water and sewer infrastructure for a local mobile home park, ensuring residents will have access to clean drinking water and reliable wastewater infrastructure. This grant will improve the health and safety of residents who live at the park by enabling YVHA to improve the infrastructure, while keeping lot rents low in one of the few remaining affordable neighborhoods in Steamboat Springs. We are so grateful for this investment in our community's affordable housing infrastructure,” said Jason Peasley, YVHA’s Executive Director.

Additional information about the Steamboat Springs-based projects:

Steamboat Springs Workforce Housing Pedestrian and Bicycle Connection Project – Routt County, CO – $ 1 million

  • To construct a sidewalk and trail connection linking existing outlying neighborhoods and a 534-acre site dedicated for affordable housing units to Steamboat Springs. This project will create a safe way for people to walk or ride bicycles and access the free transit services in order to reach employment, medical appointments, shopping and recreation. The sidewalk will separate users from the adjacent U.S. Highway 40 which experiences heavy vehicular activity and has sub-standard shoulder width, causing safety issues for users.

Yampa Valley Wastewater Infrastructure – Routt County, CO – $ 1 million

  • To replace the aging water and sewer infrastructure serving a Yampa Valley Housing Authority-owned mobile home park in Steamboat Springs, currently known as Whitehaven Mobile Home Park. The project will help connect the park to the municipal water distribution system so the City can maintain the sewer main. Currently, the park’s water is drawn from a private on-site well. The project will help connect the park to the municipal water distribution system so the City can maintain the sewer main, which will deliver cleaner, more reliable drinking water than the well provides.

Rep. Neguse secured additional investments for other communities in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, announcing a total of more than $11 million for 14 projects to directly benefit cities and towns in the district.
