Rep. Neguse Announces Winners of 2023 Congressional App Challenge
Lafayette, CO — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced the winners in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District’s 2023 App Challenge. The Congressional App Challenge is an annual competition hosted by Members of Congress, and it offers an opportunity for middle and high school aged students to explore a career in STEM.
“I was incredibly inspired by the innovation and creativity displayed in this year’s submissions by Colorado students to the Congressional App Challenge, and am excited to extend my congratulations to the students who showcased incredible skill and expertise in creating this year’s winning apps,” said Congressman Neguse.
The 2023 Congressional App Challenge Winners include:
1st Place: Medify AI, submitted by Shibani Senthilkumar, Lafayette, Peak to Peak Charter, 9th grade.
- MedifyAI is an interactive medical app that helps identify and diagnose symptoms through AI, find solutions, find a hospital, and notify/call and automatically send your location to contacts or authorities in case of an emergency.
2nd Place: Course Rescheduler, submitted by Rohit Movva, Pierce Ross, Joshua Velayo, Alden Bradley, Peak to Peak Charter School, 9th graders.
- Course Scheduler helps to reschedule a student's schedule. Users must first sign up for an account in order to save their past schedules, which they will be able to log back into later.
3rd Place: Monetary Fluency, submitted by: Devang Pandey, Erie, Fairview High, 11th grade.
- Monetary Fluency is a web application that helps teens learn and enforce their financial literacy. Monetary Fluency provides users with a unique layout that is user friendly and creates a learning space for users to learn where they want, when they want.
“This opportunity has been so valuable and reinforces my belief that technology is the future of a more equitable global healthcare system. I hope MedifyAI has the potential to be a step towards transforming the accessibility of healthcare, and I am excited to see the positive change future technologies can bring worldwide,” said Shibani Senthilkumar, the first place winner in this year’s challenge.
“We're extremely excited about this outcome. It inspires us to continue to better the lives of others through technology,” said Rohit Movva, Pierce Ross, Joshua Velayo, Alden Bradley, the second place winners from this year’s challenge who together submitted Course Rescheduler.
“I am extremely thankful for this opportunity. This opportunity allowed me to explore myself and provided me a better insight of my capabilities. I hope my app will be the foundation of something better in the future,” said Devang Pandey, the third place winner in this year’s challenge.
The winners from Colorado's 2nd Congressional District were chosen by a panel of expert judges. The projects will be featured on CongressionalAppChallenge.us and the winning app will be eligible to be on display in the U.S. Capitol, honoring the winners from across the country.
To prepare submissions, each year, the office of Congressman Neguse hosts an App-A-Thon where local students can get assistance in developing and workshopping ideas. This year’s event had a record turnout as more than 30 local students participated and networked with coding professionals at Ball Aerospace.
