Rep. Neguse Announces Nearly $800,000 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law Funding to Improve Roadway Safety
Lafayette, CO — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced $780,800 in Bipartisan Infrastructure Law funding to prevent roadway deaths and serious injuries in towns along Colorado’s I-70 transportation corridor. The Department of Transportation awarded Eagle, Minturn, and Summit County with Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) grants to assist in developing a Comprehensive Safety Action Plan.
Comprehensive Safety Action Plans work to significantly improve roadway safety, aiming to reduce and eliminate serious injury and fatal crashes. Action Plans utilize data analysis to characterize roadway safety problems and strengthen a community’s approach through projects and strategies that address the most significant safety risks.
“I was proud to help lead the effort to enact the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law two years ago, and am excited that it continues to deliver for Coloradans in our communities and for Americans across the country. As mountain towns along Colorado’s I-70 corridor face increased stressors on their roadways, this funding will work to improve safety and protect our communities—reducing roadway injuries and fatal crashes,” said Congressman Neguse.
“Receiving this Safe Streets grant is an amazing opportunity for a countywide partnership to strive for safer streets for everyone,” said Summit County Commissioner Tamara Pogue. “We are looking forward to working with the Towns of Blue River, Breckenridge, Frisco, and Silverthorne to develop a comprehensive safety plan for multimodal transportation across the community – addressing the safety of pedestrians, cyclists, motorists, and our local bus drivers and riders.”
“Receiving the Safe Streets for All (SS4A) grant is a beacon of hope as we set out on our inaugural Comprehensive Safety Action Plan for our vibrant community's diverse streets. Your investment guarantees a brighter, safer, and more connected future for our neighborhoods, enhancing our overall Quality of Life. We wholeheartedly thank you for your generosity and unwavering belief in our mountain community,” said Larry Pardee, Eagle Town Manager.
“Minturn is greatly appreciative of this grant award. As a community with a state highway serving as the town’s Main Street, we are hopeful that through the process of creating a Safety Action Plan we will be able to identify and mitigate the community’s most significant vehicular, pedestrian, and multi-modal concerns. Special thanks to the Department of Transportation for supporting Minturn in this effort,” said Earle Bidez, Mayor of Minturn.
The historic Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, enacted in November 2021, established the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) discretionary program, with $5 billion in appropriated funds over 5 years, 2022-2026.
The SS4A funding announced today, includes:
- $480,000 for Summit County Safe Streets Collaborative
- $220,800 for the Town of Eagle’s Comprehensive Safety Action Plan
- $80,000 for the Town of Minturn’s Safety Action Plan
Congressman Joe Neguse has advocated for federal funding from the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law to be allocated to the state of Colorado. Last year, he joined Governor Polis and U.S. Senators Bennet and Hickenlooper in celebrating the groundbreaking of the Floyd Hill I-70 expansion project, funded by a $100,000,000 grant for the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT).
