Neguse Secures Down Payment for His Climate Conservation Corps in Government Funding Package

March 15, 2022

Washington, D.C. — Congressman Joe Neguse announced today that he has secured a nearly $20 million down payment for his Climate Conservation Corps proposal in the government funding package signed into law by President Biden today.

“For communities in my district who have experienced relentless and historic wildfires, investments in our forests and in wildfire mitigation is absolutely crucial. That’s why we’ve been pushing a proposal for nearly two years to launch a Civilian Climate Corps and put folks to work in our public lands, restoring our forests and tackling the climate crisis,” said Congressman Joe Neguse, Chair of the U.S. Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands. “Since announcing the proposal, we’ve told everyone who will listen about the benefits of this idea for our communities at home and all across the United States. The $20 million included in the omnibus is a down payment on this vision, to begin establishing infrastructure, investing in job training and setting up the structure of this proposal. Beginning this work now will prove essential as we work to fully fund the program through President Biden’s vision to Build a Better America.”

Committee report text also directs the Departments of Interior and Agriculture to provide a written plan, within 90 days of enactment of this Act, for how CCC funding will be used, along with a breakdown of funding and a list of existing programs or partners.
