Neguse Secures $138,557 in House Appropriations Bill to Build a Gilpin County Emergency Operations Center
Washington, D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced that his request for $138,557 in federal funding to build an Emergency Operations Center (EOC) in Gilpin County has been included in the House appropriations bill. A permanent EOC in Gilpin County will allow for quicker emergency responses which translate to better outcomes for both the first responders and the communities they serve.
In total, Congressman Neguse secured over $6.5 million in funding for community projects in his district to be included in the end of year spending bill.
“With wildfires and extreme weather events growing more frequent and more severe, it is our Congressional responsibility to ensure our communities are better prepared to respond, ” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “Establishing a permanent Emergency Center will close major emergency response gaps and coordinate response efforts in high-pressure situations. Following last year’s record-setting wildfire season, ensuring that our communities have the resources they need to respond quickly is critical. I am pleased that funding for this important project will be included in this year's appropriations bill.”
Gilpin County is a small rural community with limited resources. Currently they are using an EOC-in-a-box concept, the setup of which takes valuable time and energy away from response efforts. Having a permanent location for emergency support coordination will save time, allow for more effective responses, and, ultimately, produce better post-disaster outcomes for the community.

Neguse submitted several Community Project Funding requests to the Appropriations Committee, and has had remarkable success advocating for projects in Colorado’s 2nd District. The Gilpin County Emergency Operations Center is among the 10 Neguse-sponsored projects to be funded by this round of appropriations.
