Neguse Passes Amendment to Increase Funding for School-Based Mental Health Professionals

July 28, 2021

Washington, D.C. — Last night, Congressman Joe Neguse passed an amendment through the U.S. House of Representatives to increase federal funding for school-based mental health professionals by $2 million. The amendment was added to H.R. 4502, the FY2022 Seven-Bill Appropriations Minibus and would support competitive grants to State educational agencies to increase the number of qualified mental health service providers in schools. A final vote on the bill is expected later this week.

“Ensuring Colorado kids and young adults have access to adequate mental health services is absolutely vital,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “I am proud to secure passage of this amendment today to increase funding for mental health professionals in schools by $2 million to bring in more resources, support our youth and ensure everyone is getting the care they need.”

The Appropriations bill also includes funding secured by Congressman Neguse to support rural broadband and expand open-access textbooks for college students.
