Neguse Legislation to Support Homeless Veterans to be Considered in Committee Hearing

September 9, 2021

Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced that his Veterans Job Training Act, legislation to expand job training and placement services for homeless veterans, will be considered in a Veterans Affairs Committee hearing on September 21. Specifically the legislation would reauthorize the successful Homeless Veterans Reintegration Program (HVRP) through 2025. Administered by the Department of Labor, the program is the only federal grant program which focuses exclusively on competitive employment for homeless veterans. The program's core objectives are to provide services to assist in reintegrating homeless veterans into meaningful employment and to stimulate the development of effective service delivery systems that will address problems facing homeless veterans.

“We must ensure every veteran can access housing, job training and student debt relief. For those that have sacrificed so much in service to our nation, ensuring they have the proper resources to thrive when they come home is critical. We’ve introduced two bills to meet these goals and I’m thrilled that we have secured swift consideration for the Veterans Job Training Act in the Veterans Affairs Committee only a month after introduction,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “This is a measure I feel is essential to provide adequate job training and placement services for homeless veterans in Boulder, across Colorado and across the country. For those that have served us, we must serve them by ensuring they are equipped with the proper resources to thrive.”
