ICYMI: Chairman Joe Neguse Nominates Leader Jeffries for Speaker
Lead House Democratic Messenger Neguse: “House Democratic Caucus is Unified, United, and Focused on Delivering Results for the American People”
Washington, D.C. – As a member of House Leadership, Democratic Policy and Communications Chairman Joe Neguse — the caucus’s lead messenger in the House — nominated Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries for Speaker. His remarks can be viewed here. He also appeared this week on The Sunday Show with Jonathan Capehart, the Alex Wagner Show, The ReidOut with Joy Reid, Morning Joe, and All in with Chris Hayes to talk about Democratic unity, plans for the 118th Congress, and to offer a contrast between the unified House Democrats and the disorganization of the House Republicans. Links and highlights of the Congressman’s interviews can be found below.

“The message is fairly simple and clear, which is that House Democrats are focused and united and ready to work for the people. To do what we have done for the better part of the last two years. Which is to put people over politics and deliver real results for the American people: create better-paying jobs, lower costs for working families, and build safer communities across our country. And that work is best exemplified or embodied by the legislative achievements that we were able to secure on behalf of the American people under President Biden’s leadership.”
“I think you articulated well the historic unity that was on full display today in the House Democratic Caucus under the strong leadership of our colleague and our Leader, Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries. The House Democratic Caucus is unified, united, and focused on delivering results for the American people. And I can think of no clearer juxtaposition than the chaos that was on full display in the Republican Caucus today… I think that there’s a heavy dose of sadness and disappointment, but not just in terms of how Democrats perceive today’s proceedings, the American public.”
“The salient difference between the two respective parties in the House of Representatives is pretty clear to me; which is that we have shared values in the Democratic Caucus that ultimately resonate with the vast majority of the American people and we are committed to governing, we are here to deliver results for the American people, we are unified, united, and focused – and ultimately doing what we need to do to address the consequential challenges of our time. Unfortunately, the Republican Caucus is not.”
“House Democrats… couldn't be more unified and united behind the strong leadership of Leader Jeffries, and of course focused on delivering real results for the American people. Our hope is the Republicans can get their act together and find a way to ultimately reconcile their differences so that we can get back to work for the American people.”
