Congressman Neguse Secures Provision to Improve Mail Delivery for Rural Communities in Recently Passed Appropriations Legislation
Washington, D.C. – Today, Congressman Neguse announced that he has secured a key provision to improve mail delivery through the U.S. Postal Service for American’s in rural communities in the recently passed House Appropriations Minibus. The bill includes language to ensure the U.S. Postal Service will continue to work to provide timely and consistent mail delivery to all Americans, particularly in rural and mountainous areas.
“Timely and consistent mail delivery is something every American relies on,” said Congressman Neguse. “My office has been contacted by many constituents from mountain and rural areas in the Second District who have been dealing with inconsistent, late or undelivered mail. Failure to receive important mail on time can have a severe impact on the wellbeing of an individual, and our rural communities often suffer from these inconsistencies. With the language I’ve added to the appropriations, we can ensure that the U.S. Postal Service will continue to prioritize improving mail delivery services to our rural and mountain communities.”
Congressman Neguse partnered with Congressman Scott Tipton to send a letter to the House Appropriations Committee in March, asking for the inclusion of this language in the appropriations report.
Congressman Neguse has also been fighting for the improvement of mail delivery to rural and mountain communities through increasing funding for USPS. In March, Congressman Neguse introduced the Protect Our Post Offices Act to provide $25 billion in emergency funding for the United States Postal Service, and in May he helped secure $25 billion for USPS in the Heroes Act, to help USPS maintain services amidst the coronavirus pandemic.
