Washington, D.C. — This week, Congressman Joe Neguse released a COVID-19 PSA video with members of the Colorado Black Caucus and black Colorado community leaders to encourage vaccinations among the African American community. According to the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment (CDPHE), 65% of white Coloradans have received at least one shot while only 52% of Black Coloradans have. Along with Neguse, the video features State Senator Janet Buckner, State Representative Leslie Herod, Maya Wheeler, Executive Director of the African Colorado Chamber of Commerce and Eula Adams, Commissioner at CDOT.

“This last year has been difficult for everyone, but thankfully there is a light at the end of the tunnel. COVID-19 has taken so much from so many. And getting vaccinated is the best way to protect yourself and your loved ones,” the group of leaders says in the PSA. “The COVID-19 vaccine is safe and extremely effective. It prevents you from getting sick and from spreading the virus to others. We all want to go back to normal. Once you’re vaccinated you can take off your mask. Grandparents can safely hug their grandkids. You can do the things you love without fear of infection.”
