Congressman Neguse Meets with Larimer County Municipal Leaders to Set 2020 Agenda, Delivers State of the District Address to Crowd of 300+ in Fort Collins
Rep. Neguse: “We do things a little differently here in Colorado”
Washington, D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse traversed Larimer County on Tuesday to visit constituents, meet with municipal leaders and deliver the first of two State of the District addresses to be given this week. Neguse met with Municipal leaders from Berthoud, Loveland, Fort Collins and Larimer County to discuss 2020 priorities and provide updates from Congress. Conversations focused on issues surrounding affordable housing, transportation and infrastructure, rural broadband, education and childcare funding. In Loveland and Fort Collins, municipal leaders also raised current delays in the Northern Colorado Regional Airport’s pending FAA certification for air traffic controllers and a mobile tower.
“It was a privilege to spend the day in Larimer hearing from constituents and meeting with our local leaders as we move into high gear on 2020 policy priorities,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “I am committed to listening to constituents and being as transparent as possible, which is why I will continue to hold town halls and travel to all 10 counties to hear from our working families.”
He traveled to Laporte for a visit with students at Cache La Poudre Middle School. Several students wrote his office letters last year requesting he work to increase special education funding through the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. He returned to the school to give a progress report on the $400 million additional funding he was able to secure in the FY2020 appropriations package. He is also co-leading legislation to fully fund the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act. Read more about the visit here.
He also met with constituents at this month’s “Java with Joe” event in Berthoud, where constituents had the opportunity to sit down with the Congressman in an informal setting to discuss local and federal policy issues. In Fort Collins, he met with his Senior Advisory Council to discuss issues impacting seniors across Colorado and policy priorities for the new year and delivered a State of the District Address to a crowd of over 300 at the Fort Collins Senior Center. His address touched on his work in 2019 to invest in infrastructure and education funding for the district, expand opportunities for affordable housing, combat the existential threat of climate change, preserve Colorado’s public lands and lower the cost of healthcare. “We do things a little differently here in Colorado,” Neguse said to the crowd on Tuesday evening. “Although we face a lot of problems that merit our attention and our work to help solve, we are up to the task. In Colorado, we do things a little bit differently, we try as best as we can to hear each other and respectfully exchange views and then come to a conclusion that is in the best interest of the people that we are lucky enough to represent. That is certainly the approach that my office has taken in the last year.”
Congressman Neguse will continue to meet with constituents across the district throughout the week until the Congressional voting schedule resumes in Washington, D.C. on January 27th. His second State of the District address is scheduled for 5:30pm on Thursday, January 23rd at Boulder High School.
