Congressman Neguse Helps Secure Disaster Declaration for the State of Colorado
The declaration will bring additional resources to Colorado to help address the COVID-19 pandemic
Washington D.C.—Today, the State of Colorado was declared a major disaster area, following requests earlier this week by Governor Jared Polis and the federal congressional delegation, led by Congressman Joe Neguse, to receive such a declaration. The order will provide additional Federal assistance to supplement state and local recovery efforts throughout Colorado to combat COVID-19. Read the statement from the White House here.
On Thursday, Congressman Joe Neguse led members of the Colorado delegation in sending a letter to President Donald Trump urging him to expedite the Disaster Declaration for the State of Colorado requested by Governor Jared Polis on March 25. Read this letter here.
“When compared to other states, Colorado has one of the highest rates of COVID-19 cases per capita. With a growing number of cases across the state, our frontline health care workers are in urgent need of increased personal protective equipment, ventilators and capacity to treat Coloradans,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “The classification of Colorado as a major disaster area will open additional access to federal resources to assist with Colorado’s efforts to combat the global pandemic and equip our healthcare workforce, infrastructure and treatment capacity. I am grateful for Governor Polis’s efforts to request this status and honored to assist with securing additional resources to assist our state.”
