Congressman Neguse Helps Obtain $12 Million Transportation Grant for The Lift in Winter Park

November 20, 2019

Washington D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse, who represents Grand County in the U.S. House of Representatives, announced a $12 million grant from the Department of Transportation (DOT) to build a new transit facility and finance buses for The Lift, Grand County’s only form of public transportation.

“Investments in transportation infrastructure in Grand County are much-needed and welcomed to invest in our local economies and connect communities,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “This grant will help ensure The Lift can continue to provide the over 500,000 riders in rural Colorado with safe means to access employment, medical appointments, social and recreational opportunities. I welcome this grant and am optimistic it will provide real tangible change for the region.”

"The I-70 Coalition is supportive of transit as a means to reduce the number of vehicles traveling Interstate 70," said Margaret Bowes, Director of the I-70 Coalition. "Regional transit systems such as Lift are an important component of a comprehensive multi modal solution for the mountain corridor.

In June, Neguse sent a letter to Mark Bathrik, at the Federal Transit Administration at the U.S. Department of Transportation in support of Winter Park’s application.

“The Lift serves a vital role in Winter Park, as it is the only form of public transportation in Grand County,” Neguse wrote in the June letter. “Both the Town of Fraser and the Town of Granby have signed intergovernmental agreements to be part of The Lift, connecting the Fraser Valley community. This service is only three years old, but it is a positive contribution to the economic development of Grand County and is an improvement to the quality of life in the Fraser Valley.”
