Congressman Neguse to Deliver State of the District Address in Fort Collins on Tuesday

January 16, 2020

Washington, D.C.—On Tuesday January 21st Congressman Joe Neguse will deliver a State of the District address in Fort Collins to share updates on the state of the 2nd Congressional District and his efforts in Congress to address them. The address will be followed by town hall Q&A with constituents.

In 2019, Congressman Joe Neguse introduced 30 pieces of legislationmore than any other freshman lawmaker and the most of any member in the Colorado delegation—and had 4 of his bills signed into law. Among legislation introduced by the Congressman were measures to invest in regenerative agriculture research, modernize federal labs in the district, expand affordable housing opportunities, combat the existential threat of climate change and preserve Colorado’s public lands.

In October, Congressman Joe Neguse passed major Colorado wilderness legislation out of the U.S. House of Representatives. The Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy Act would preserve 400,000 acres of public land across the state and designate the first-ever National Historic Landscape at Camp Hale.

In 2019, Congressman Joe Neguse held 24 town halls across the district—9 in Larimer County—and launched a first-of-its-kind service town hall initiative, partnering with the Larimer Humane Society and Rocky Mountain National Park for service town halls in Larimer County. He was recognized by the Town Hall Project with the “Spirit of Service” award for his innovative town halls.

Through support letters for local grant applications, he was able to help secure $12,450,000 in federal grant money for the 2nd Congressional District. Through casework out of his district offices, his staff successfully closed 396 cases and returned $419,639 to constituents.

He highlighted Colorado on the national level multiple times throughout the year. In August, he hosted the House Select Committee on the Climate Crisis in Boulder for the Committee’s first and only field hearing and also hosted Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi in Broomfield for a panel discussion on affordable healthcare.

“I am privileged to call the 2nd Congressional District home and to work each day to implement bold policy to expand affordable housing opportunities, combat the existential threat of climate change, preserve our public lands and continue to invest in the science and innovation that Colorado is known for,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “In my first year in office we have worked to hear from constituents up and down the district at 24 town halls, by responding to letters, answering phone calls and being in frequent communication with our district. We’ve collaborated with local county commissioners, housing authorities, higher education institutions, farmers, scientists and teachers across the district to introduce impactful legislation for our district and see several important provisions signed into law. I’m excited to share a robust update on our work with our district and to continue to work on legislation and accountability that will make our district proud.”
