Congressman Neguse Announces New Youth Advisory Council

October 24, 2019

Washington, D.C.— Today, Congressman Neguse announced the formation of his new Youth Advisory Council, comprising 40 high school students who will serve the district by engaging in conversation about topics that concern young Coloradans. The students will routinely meet with Neguse’s office to discuss policy and legislation, conduct leadership exercises and plan a youth summit for the coming year.

“I am thrilled to see that so many young people are enthusiastic about serving Colorado’s Second District,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “These bright minds are the future of our state and our nation and they deserve to have a say in the political landscape we are creating for them. I look forward to engaging with them on some of the most pressing issues of our time.”

The first Youth Advisory Council is made up of 40 students, including representatives from Loveland, Fort Collins, Niwot, Boulder, Edwards, Granby and Bailey, who applied through the Congressman’s district office and will serve on the council through May 2020.

The Youth Advisory Council initiative is one of many ways that Congressman Neguse is connecting with youth, in addition to passing the Next Generation Votes Act as an amendment on the House Floor to allow 16 and 17-year-olds to pre-register to vote ahead of their 18th birthday. Neguse also hosted an App-a-thon Coding Day in October to encourage youth to pursue careers in coding and STEM fields.
