Congressman Neguse Announces $3.5 Million in Federal Funding for Fort Collins Low or No Emission Buses

June 28, 2021

Fort Collins, CO—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced that Fort Collins will receive $3,523,210 from the Department of Transportation’s Low or No Emission Vehicle Grant program to support low emission transportation options. The Low or No Emission Grant Program provides funding to states and local government authorities for zero-emission and low-emission public transportation and supporting infrastructure.

“I am excited to announce that Fort Collins has received a Department of Transportation grant for $3.5 million to support low or no emission vehicles,” said Congressman Neguse. “As we make much-needed investments in our nation’s infrastructure and transportation systems, it’s essential these investments acknowledge the climate crisis and put us on track to lower emissions. Across the 2nd district of Colorado, cities and counties, including Fort Collins, are setting ambitious renewable energy goals, and the Low or No Emission grant program supports these efforts and helps to ensure our communities are equipped to meet those goals and combat the climate crisis.”

“I want to congratulate the City of Fort Collins for being awarded a $3.5 million Low and No Emission (Low-No) Vehicle Grant,” said Larimer County Commissioner Kristen Stephens. “This funding will help Fort Collins accelerate their efforts to transition their transit fleets to zero-emission vehicles and will help our county and our entire region achieve our ambitious and critical climate action goals. We are thankful to Congressman Neguse who has been a steadfast supporter of the Lo-No Vehicle grant program, and other forward looking programs that address both our infrastructure needs and our climate reality.”

Congressman Neguse has been a major supporter of the Lo-No grant program. Congressman Neguse secured a significant funding increase for the program in the FY2021 budget by leading a letter signed by 28 other Members of Congress urging increased funding for the program to promote necessary investment in infrastructure programs that will help update the nation's crumbling infrastructure and transportation systems.

Since its establishment, the Low-No program has provided over $300 million in funding for low or no emission buses across the country. In 2018 Eagle County Transportation Authority received $1.3 million, Breckenridge’s “Electric Breck: plan received $ 1 million, and Estes Park received $403,266. In 2017, the Town of Vail and City of Boulder also received funding to replace diesel buses.
