Congressman Joe Neguse Celebrates Summit County Student’s Congressional Award Gold Medal
Dillon, CO — Today, Congressman Neguse announced that Jac Crowe, a high school senior from Dillon, will receive the Congressional Award Gold Medal. The Congressional Award is meant to reward young constituents for exceptional public service and civic leadership within the Congressional District and our nation's capital.
“I am thrilled to see my constituent Jac Crowe win this well-deserved, prestigious award,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “One of my favorite quotes about public service comes from Robert F. Kennedy, who once said, ‘the purpose of life is to make things better in some way.’ By stepping up to become a conscious leader in his community, Jac represents that vision. It is his generation that has the power to change the future, and I look forward to seeing these young people like Jac become leaders in our country and around the world.”
“The Congressional Award means so much to me because it has provided me with so many opportunities and experiences. I have been able to give back to my community which has been very special. Overall, the Congressional Award has helped me grow as a person and I am thankful for the experiences it has given me.” said Gold Medal recipient Jac Crowe.
Established by Congress in 1979, the Congressional Award recognizes community service and leadership among American youth ages 13 ½ to 23. Gold Medalists must log 400 hours of voluntary community service, 200 hours of physical fitness, 200 hours of personal development, and a five-day, four-night expedition or exploration. It is the highest honor that can be awarded to a youth civilian through Congress, and Gold Medalists – like Jac – commit themselves to a minimum of two years of community involvement in order to be eligible for the award.
Gold Medalists and their families are honored annually at a multi-day recognition event in Washington, D.C., where Members of Congress, industry and civic leaders, and public and private partners honor the medalists’ leadership. More information on the Congressional Award can be found here.
