March 3, 2021

Neguse also Chairs the U.S. House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands and serves as a member of House Leadership

Washington D.C.—Today, Congressman Joe Neguse was appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship. Since coming to Congress, Congressman Joe Neguse has lent his voice as a son of immigrants to policy discussions in Congress surrounding refugee resettlement and a pathway to citizenship. He powerfully denounced the reckless travel bans introduced by the Trump Administration, and joined efforts to pass the No Ban Act, to repeal the bans, including the African ban which puts limits on refugees from multiple countries. He played a leadership role as the House passed the American Dream and Promise Act in 2019, which would protect DACA recipients, TPS holders and DED beneficiaries. As a Co-Chair of the Bipartisan Refugee Caucus, he led on the GRACE Act, legislation to ensure the United States remains a leader in refugee resettlement. He’s also been an advocate for Coloradans living in sanctuary, and provided necessary oversight on private detention facilities, such as the GEO facility in Aurora, Colorado.

“I’m honored to be appointed to serve as Vice Chair of the U.S. House Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship,” said Congressman Joe Neguse. “Like so many others in America, my family’s story is an immigrant story. My parent’s journey to America over 40 years ago offered me and my sister freedoms and opportunities we never could have imagined, and have never taken for granted. My parent’s journey, and the fact that just one generation-removed, I am able to serve in the United States Congress is powerful proof that the American dream exists, and is what has made me work so hard to ensure that the American dream remains attainable for others. I look forward to continuing this work as Vice Chair of the Immigration Subcommittee to protect Dreamers, support refugee resettlement in the United States and ensure all immigrants are treated with humanity and dignity.”

Congressman Neguse will also Chair the U.S. House Subcommittee on National Parks, Forests and Public Lands in the 117th Congress, and serves as a member of House Leadership, as Co-Chair of the Democratic Policy and Communications Committee (DPCC).
