Assistant Minority Leader Neguse Applauds Colorado and Rocky Mountain West Designation as Leading Tech Hub
Lafayette, CO — Today, House Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse issued the following statement after the announcement that Colorado and the Rocky Mountain West have been granted Phase II Tech Hub implementation funding. The $40.5 million awarded today was made possible by investments in the historic Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors (CHIPS) and Science Act and will work to bolster the region’s ability to scale up the production and delivery of critical technologies that maintain America’s competitive edge in quantum computing.
Assistant Leader Neguse has been a vocal advocate for Colorado and the surrounding region to lead the nation’s quantum field. Before the initial designation last year, Neguse joined Colorado’s congressional delegation in a letter to the Department of Commerce highlighting the state’s existing technology ecosystem and encouraging the agency to include Colorado in the Tech Hubs Program.
“In being named the nation’s leading quantum Tech Hub, Elevate Quantum, Colorado, and the Rocky Mountain West have solidified their position as the leaders of the quantum revolution. Today’s designation will have a tremendous impact on our state and will propel our innovation economy to the next level. We are thrilled to welcome new Phase II investments made possible by the Chips and Science Act to support the groundbreaking research and technological advancements underway in Colorado’s leading labs and federal research facilities,” said House Assistant Minority Leader Joe Neguse.
In October 2023, the Elevate Quantum Tech Hub – a consortium of stakeholders in Colorado and across the Rocky Mountain West – was selected as one of 31 Designated Tech Hubs as part of Phase I of the new Tech Hubs Program, a flagship initiative aimed at advancing U.S. leadership in critical technologies and industries. The Tech Hub program developed under the CHIPS and Science Act, invests directly in high-potential U.S. regions to drive globally competitive innovation centers. Assistant Leader Neguse played a key role in securing the swift enactment of the CHIPS and Science Act, which has helped spur economic and national security, spark semiconductor innovation and manufacturing, remove roadblocks to attracting scientific investment across America, and boost resilience in U.S. supply chains.
