On the Road with Congressman Neguse...
Dear Neighbor, It’s been a busy few weeks back on the road across Colorado’s 2nd District — from Steamboat Springs to Longmont and everywhere in between!
Last week, as a member of the House Democratic Leadership team, I was honored to welcome my good friend and colleague, House Democratic Leader Hakeem Jeffries to our great state. On Monday, we were joined by a panel of local leaders and law enforcement for a community conversation on gun violence prevention (read here). Tragically, our state is no stranger to the scourge of gun violence. Day after day, and year after year, too many Americans and Coloradans are dying from gun violence—and it’s time for lawmakers to come together to do something for the common good and protect our communities.
TOWN HALL IN THE MOUNTAINS
From expanding affordable housing to pursuing a water agenda that puts community needs first, we had much to discuss during our trip to the mountains last week. Starting in Steamboat Springs, Senator Bennet and I met with housing leaders in the Yampa Valley to discuss our efforts to cut red-tape and address housing shortages through our Flexible Housing Partnerships Act. Next, I joined my congressional colleagues for the Colorado Water Congress Conference. As Co-Chair of the CO River Caucus, our office is pursuing a water agenda that puts community needs first, working across the aisle to protect the reliability & consistency of our water sources. We ended our afternoon in Steamboat Springs by visiting with local entrepreneurs and small business owners.
Then, we went to Grand County for a visit with the Forest Service and BLM on our work to complete the Continental Divide Trail. We are working to bridge the gap and protect some of the most beautiful landscapes in our country. We wrapped the day with a Town Hall meeting in Granby, where I had the opportunity to meet with folks and hear their suggestions, ideas and questions.
WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?
- We celebrated the one year anniversary of the Inflation Reduction Act! This law marks the single largest investment in climate action in American history and has delivered greatly by lowering costs, defeating special interests, tackling climate issues, and growing the economy.
- Hosted a Labor Roundtable with Colorado leaders to discuss key issues, including our plans to lower costs and grow the middle class across the state. See here.
- Joined Governor Polis and Senator Hickenlooper to celebrate the opening of Colorado’s newest research facility. National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) Boulder continues to break the mold and advance innovation that will shape our future.
