New Bills, Community Events, Celebrations, & More!

Dear Neighbor, I just got back from a busy week in Washington, D.C. — preceded by an even busier week in Colorado’s 2nd District visiting with community members, local leaders, and more!

While in Washington, I was proud to reintroduce my bill to provide our federal wildland firefighting workforce with a living wage, comprehensive health care, and additional hard earned benefits –  which they so deeply deserve. Tim’s Act is named after a brave smokejumper from Cody, Wyoming, who tragically lost his life on May 24th, 2021, while battling the Eicks Fire in New Mexico.

As some of you may be aware, in Colorado and across the United States, we no longer have wildfire seasons – we have wildfire years. And it is our federal wildland firefighting crews that bear the heavy burden every day of keeping us safe from these encroaching threats. We must continue to work to ensure that these brave firefighters are being paid a wage that reflects the value of their work.

I am proud to announce that this year I teamed up with Colorado Senator Michael Bennet to introduce this critical bill. Our work continues!

ETHICS IN GOVERNMENT

This week I organized a bipartisan coalition of lawmakers, Republicans and Democrats, to call on the House Administration Committee to hold a markup on legislation to ban members of Congress from trading stocks. I’m proud to have led the charge to restore trust in government and prohibit representatives from trading stocks and will continue to make this legislation a priority. Simply put, Members of Congress should be putting the needs of their constituents and the American people first, not their stock portfolios. Read more about our efforts here and here.

WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?

  • I was excited to join the hardworking teachers, administrators, and students at Superior Elementary School in celebrating their National Blue Ribbon Honor. The school has done an outstanding job creating a safe and welcoming environment where students can thrive, and I am looking forward to seeing all they’ll accomplish in the coming years.

  • Last week, I met with Dr. John Lawton, a local World War II veteran in Boulder County. Throughout his years serving our country, John exhibited a profound commitment to protecting our freedoms. We celebrated his upcoming 100th birthday and he shared his important story with us! Read more about our visit here

  • I joined the SWERI Cross Boundary Workshop at Colorado State University to discuss real and viable steps to bolster community resilience in a climate altered West. We must continue to tackle the climate crisis head on!

  • Gun Violence Prevention: I introduced a package of bills to bolster public safety and prevent mass shootings. Learn more about these common-sense measures here.
