It’s been a while since we connected…
Dear Neighbor, I am happy to report that things are busy as ever here in Washington, D.C. This week, my colleagues and I took steps to protect Coloradans, fighting for proposals that build safer communities, lower costs for working families, and create better paying jobs;
Yesterday, I introduced a package of bills to combat the senseless rise in gun violence and put a stop to mass shootings in America. The bills we introduced enact common-sense measures that will save lives, and have earned the support of gun violence prevention advocates, teachers and more. Learn more below:
-
End Gun Violence Act – This bill would prohibit the sale of firearms and ammunition to anyone convicted of a violent misdemeanor crime for five years.
-
Secure Background Checks Act – This bill would add state-level age requirements to the list of federal prohibitors that the National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) background check already identifies.
-
STOP Violence Act – This bill would provide federal funding for preventative security measures at public assembly facilities.
It’s time we put the safety of our students, our families, and our communities first.
Let’s get these bills across the finish line!
CONGRESSIONAL ART COMPETITION'23
I am excited to announce that this past weekend our office held a ceremony to celebrate the students who submitted artwork to this year’s Congressional Art Competition. This year’s first place winner, Emily Steele, is a senior at Boulder High School. Her artwork, a self-portrait of her younger self reading a book in a library, will be displayed at the U.S. Capitol Building for a year!

We announced $9 million in federal funding for the University of Colorado, Boulder’s next generation domestic solar manufacturing research. Thanks to investments made possible by the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, we are continuing to invest in growing our nation’s domestic solar supply chain and energy grid. I joined a group of my colleagues in calling on Congress to improve pay and benefits for our brave wildland firefighters. These folks sacrifice so much, each and every day, to keep our communities safe…more to come on this soon!
