Introducing the CORE Act: Written by Coloradans for Colorado!

Dear Neighbor, I’m excited to announce that last week I re-introduced the Colorado Outdoor Recreation and Economy, or CORE, Act – a bill written by Coloradans for Colorado. For those of you not familiar with this proposal, I’m proud to have led the CORE Act since first coming to Congress in 2019. The bill is the product of an over a decade-long collaboration between local leaders, ranchers, conservationists, and many more. These folks came together on a bipartisan basis to create legislation that preserves some of Colorado’s most treasured public lands and boosts our state’s outdoor recreation economy.

Last Congress, we had tremendous momentum in our work to enact this bill – including my work to successfully secure the designation of the Camp Hale-Continental Divide National Monument by President Biden. But our work is not done, and the CORE Act will build on this effort – protecting approximately 420,000 acres of public land in Colorado, establishing new wilderness areas, and safeguarding existing outdoor recreation opportunities to boost the economy for future generations.

It’s time we get this bill passed for the people of Colorado!

FIGHTING FOR FOLKS IMPACTED BY THE MARSHALL FIRE

Earlier this year, an 80-year-old Superior resident who lost his home as a result of the Marshall Fire was sent a foreclosure notice. Our constituent was unfairly impacted by an unnecessary occupancy requirement issued by Federal regulators. After working with local leaders to take action, I am proud to report that this week the Department of Housing and Urban Development has announced that they will update these unfair guidelines for families impacted by the Marshall Fire — and thanks to our work, they are developing an enhanced servicing system for other communities impacted by other natural disasters in the future! WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?
  • We celebrated the ribbon cutting of the Veteran Community Project’s Village Community Center! After securing federal funding for this project last Congress, it is great to see our work in action, expanding housing infrastructure for the many service members in our community who bravely served our country.

  • Reminder: Our office is now accepting applications for Service Academy Nominations! Visit http://Neguse.House.Gov to learn more about this program.

  • We secured over $3 million for wildfire mitigation & prevention efforts in Routt National Forest. As wildfires grow more pervasive, we must continue to invest in the health of our national forests. Read more about this announcement here.

  • Banning Members of Congress from trading stocks: In case you missed it, last week my colleagues and I called on House leadership to take up legislation that bans Members of Congress from trading stocks. Members of Congress should be putting the needs of their constituents and the American people first — not their stock portfolios. Read more about this effort here.
