I am writing today with some exciting news!
Dear Neighbor, June was a busy and meaningful month, as our office continued our legislative work on behalf the people of Colorado. Last week, after our advocacy efforts over the past two year, the U.S. Department of Transportation awarded communities across Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District with over $38 million in grant funding to better invest in our local transportation infrastructure. As I discussed with Secretary Buttigieg last week, the projects in our district include improving Highway 119 in Boulder and Longmont, bolstering the transit network in Fort Collins, and supporting redevelopment in Idaho Springs!
For years, I’ve worked with local leaders to get these projects the funding they require—writing letters of support, advocating for the Bipartisan Infrastructure Law, and more—and I am thrilled to see our hard work and collaboration come to fruition.
In other news, I am also proud to announce the recent introduction of three new bills, all of which will improve the lives of hardworking families and individuals in Colorado and across the country. The bills are as follows:
-
The National Manufacturing Advisory Council for the 21st Century Act – A bipartisan bill to create better paying jobs and support our domestic supply chain by constructing a National Manufacturing Advisory Council.
-
The Recycling and Composting Accountability Act – A bill that identifies current challenges in the composting and recycling sectors and works to improve upon these systems, supporting the creation of a more sustainable future.
-
The Federal Labs Modernization Act – A bill to support the modernization of federal labs by ensuring they are properly funded.
COLORADO'S OUTSTANDING LEADERS
After seven back-to-back weeks in Washington, it’s been great to spend time at home and with our communities. On Tuesday, I was honored to deliver the Keynote Address for the Colorado County Clerks Association’s 2023 Summer Conference. We discussed our shared goals for the state of Colorado and the critical work county clerks do everyday.
WHAT ELSE HAVE WE BEEN WORKING ON?
-
The National Science Foundation (NSF) awarded $1.6 million to the University of Colorado Boulder and $1.8 million to Colorado State University to support their ground-breaking research projects! Read more here.
-
We introduced the Reverse Transfer Efficiency Act, a bill that breaks down barriers to college degrees for students across the country. This is a meaningful step for the future and one that will create more opportunities for all!
