Boulder Housing Partners receives $450,000 federal grant

Boulder Housing Partners, the city’s affordable housing provider, was awarded a nearly $450,000 federal Housing and Urban Development grant, U.S. Rep. Joe Neguse announced late last week.

Boulder was one of seven municipalities in Colorado to receive a grant in this round of funding, according to a news release from the congressman’s office.

“Across the 2nd (Congressional) District, securing affordable housing is a critical priority for many of my constituents. As our communities expand and grow, far too many are being priced out of our city limits and are being forced to live farther away from work and community resources,” Neguse stated in the release. “I am pleased that the government is awarding funding to areas like Boulder so that we can continue to address this dire need and fundamental human right.”

The grant will result in 39 new affordable homes, according to Boulder Mayor Sam Weaver’s statement in the release.

“Affordable housing is a priority that the city of Boulder is working on aggressively to advance,” Weaver stated in the release. “We recently adopted a 15% by 2035 goal for affordable housing stock in the city. This grant award means that 39 families and individuals will no longer be cost-burdened for housing and we are 39 homes closer to our goal.”

Fort Collins, also in Neguse’s district, was another of the seven Colorado municipalities to receive a grant.

“A federal grant such as this will be significant to Boulder Housing Partner’s goal to increase affordable housing opportunities across our county and make living in Boulder possible and affordable for everyone, regardless of their income,” Jeremy Durham, executive director of Boulder Housing Partners, stated in the release. “We’re grateful for the support of our local and federal policy makers to ensure Boulder is considered in the designation of such grants.”
