Congressman Neguse Cosponsors Debt Free College Act of 2019
Washington, D.C. — Today, Congressman Neguse signed onto H.R. 1571, the Debt Free College Act of 2019, bicameral legislation, led by Representative Pocan (WI-02) in the House of Representatives, aimed at reversing the student debt crisis and addressing the rising costs of higher education in the United States.
“The student loan crisis is growing rapidly, hindering many young people’s access to higher education,” said Congressman Neguse “Not only does this crisis hurt students’ abilities to achieve financial security later on in life, but it also hampers broader economic growth. The Debt Free College Act will create tangible changes to the way Congress finances higher education and provide students with debt-free college. We’re at a pivotal point where the federal government must work alongside states to invest in higher education to provide the crucial opportunity of a college degree that our students need.”
In addition to this bill, Congressman Neguse has also sponsored bicameral legislation to expand open access textbooks on college campuses to address costs associated with higher education.
