Rep. Neguse Secures $1 Million in Federal Funding for the City of Longmont Microtransit System
Lafayette, CO — Today, Congressman Joe Neguse announced $1,000,000 in Community Project Funding for the City of Longmont Microtransit System. The investment will support the construction of a regional transit system that provides residents, workers, and visitors of Longmont with a reliable, safe and direct ride anywhere in the City – or within 30 minutes of their request. Rep. Neguse successfully championed and secured the investment as part of the first set of government funding bills signed into law by President Biden on Saturday, March 9.
“The Longmont Microtransit System will improve the quality of life for residents, workers, and visitors across the community by connecting these individuals with expanded access to everyday essentials like grocery stores, schools, health care facilities and more. This project has the power to make a real difference in the lives of so many in our community, and I am proud to have secured a significant investment for the City of Longmont. Together, we are reducing barriers to transit and transportation for rural residents and helping make Longmont healthier, safer, and stronger,” said Congressman Neguse.
“The City of Longmont is very excited to be receiving this infusion of funding for our planned microtransit program to start later this summer. The Congressionally Designated Spending opportunity, fully supported by Representative Neguse, allows Longmont to pilot a robust microtransit program that fills in the current transit gaps in our transportation system and allows people to realistically consider full mobility without needing to own a private vehicle. Removing the need to own or lease a private vehicle allows people to spend their limited resources on other expenses like housing, food, medication and entertainment,” said Phil Greenwald, Transportation Planning Manager, City of Longmont.
Rep. Neguse secured additional investments for other communities in Colorado’s 2nd Congressional District, announcing a total of more than $11 million for 14 projects to directly benefit cities and towns in the district.
