Congressman Neguse Statement on Climate Change

Washington, D.C.— Congressman Joe Neguse (D-CO) released the following statement about President Trump’s comments denying climate change:

Climate change is the existential threat of our time. Wildfires have burned over five million acres in Colorado, Oregon and California, including two massive fires in my district, the Cameron Peak Fire and the Williams Fork Fire. The Southern coast is being threatened by ever more powerful hurricanes and storms. The science is clear: climate change is real and we have to do everything in our power to stop it.

The Select Committee on the Climate Crisis, on which I serve, issued a roadmap for ambitious climate action including reducing greenhouse emissions, building a cleaner, more efficient energy sector, and investing in green jobs and the transition to a green economy.

Most importantly, however, we need leadership on climate action. The President’s refusal to even name the problem means he will be unable to address it. But even if he will not admit what is happening or work towards solutions, I know the House of Representatives will.”
