Congressman Neguse Announces Applications for 2021 Military Academy Nominations to Open May 1

Boulder, CO— Today, Congressman Neguse announced that applications for 2021 Military Academy Nominations will open on May 1, 2021. Each year, Congressmembers have the opportunity to nominate students to attend 4 of the 5 military academies: U.S. Military Academy, West Point, the U.S. Naval Academy, the U.S. Air Force Academy, and the U.S. Merchant Marine Academy. The fifth service academy, the U.S. Coast Guard Academy, does not require a congressional nomination for appointment. Each Member may nominate up to ten individuals for each academy vacancy for their district.

“Our country needs the best and brightest Colorado’s 2nd district has to offer to serve in our military and attend our military academies,” says Congressman Joe Neguse. “I am honored to yet again announce the beginning of the Military Academy Nominations process for my office.”

Deadlines for the nomination process are as follows: 

May 1st: Application for a nomination through the office of Congressman Joe Neguse opens

October 1st: Application closes  

October 15th: Qualified applicants receive an offer to schedule an in-person interview.

End of October/Beginning of November: Interviews will be held, exact dates, TBD.

Mid- December: Nominees are announced

January 31st: All congressional nominations will be submitted to their respective academies.

The honor of attending a service academy comes with the obligation and commitment to serve in the military for a minimum of five years upon graduation.
