Congressman Joe Neguse Statement on President Joe Biden's Executive Order to Safeguard DACA

Washington D.C.—Congressman Joe Neguse, today, issued a statement in response to President Joe Biden signing an executive order to preserve and fortify the Obama-Biden 2012 DACA protections for young undocumented immigrants:

“My parent’s immigration to the United States over 40 years ago offered me and my sister freedoms and opportunities we’ve never taken for granted. My family’s journey is proof-positive that the American dream exists, and it is what has made me fight so hard to ensure that the American dream remains attainable for immigrants seeking refuge in America, and for every American looking for a good-paying job, a quality education for their children and access to the wonderful opportunities that our great nation provides.”

“Over the last four years, young DACA recipients have been subjected to tremendous uncertainty and fear, as the Trump Administration instituted reckless and dangerous immigration policies. It is time for a new era for our nation’s immigrants, one that offers certainty, stability and the chance for them to go to school, go to work, and thrive in our communities without fear of deportation. I applaud President Biden’s action today to preserve and strengthen DACA and provide certainty for thousands of young immigrants living in the shadows. It’s now Congress’s job to act to pass a permanent solution.”

Background

Since taking office, Congressman Neguse has advocated for passage of the American Dream and Promise Act, legislation that would permanently protect DACA recipients, TPS holders and DED beneficiaries. In 2019, Congressman Neguse passionately argued for passage of the American Dream and Promise Act on the House floor. He serves on the House Judiciary Committee and the Subcommittee on Immigration and Citizenship. In 2019, he brought a DACA student from Colorado State University to the State of the Union as his guest.
