Fort Collins Rep. Joe Neguse elected to No. 8 House leadership spot

Fort Collins' congressional representative, Democrat Joe Neguse, is ascending the ranks of U.S. House of Representatives leadership.

The House Democratic Caucus unanimously elected Neguse last week as co-chair of the House Democratic Policy and Communications Committee, the No. 8 position in House leadership. Neguse has represented Colorado's 2nd Congressional district, including all of Larimer County and the Boulder area, since 2019. He previously served as the House's co-representative for the Freshman Class in 2019-20.

In his new role, Neguse will help craft messaging and policy for the House Democratic Caucus. He's the first second-term representative to ever serve in the role. In a statement, Neguse said he's "incredibly honored" to have been elected.

"There is a tremendous amount of work to get done next Congress to address the COVID-19 pandemic and provide needed economic relief for our communities, lower the cost of health care and prescription drugs, and so much more," he said. "I look forward to working with both my colleagues and President-Elect Biden’s administration to tackle these critical issues.”

House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, in a statement, called Neguse "a deeply respected voice in the Congress and our Caucus since day one."
